Our International Curriculum Journey
Current Accreditation Stage
Our school is currently in the accreditation phase of adopting the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). This is an important and exciting stage in our development, as it ensures that we meet the high standards required to deliver the curriculum effectively.
At present, our teachers are undergoing comprehensive professional training in preparation for a full implementation beginning in September 2026. This training focuses on understanding the philosophy of the IPC, developing effective teaching strategies, and ensuring that learning is delivered in a way that is engaging, rigorous and internationally relevant.
This careful preparation ensures that, from the outset, our pupils will benefit from a well-structured and high-quality learning experience.
What IPC Means in Practice
In practice, the IPC transforms the classroom into a dynamic and engaging learning environment. Lessons are designed around thematic units that bring together subjects such as History, Geography, Science, Art and Design Technology.
Each unit begins with an engaging ‘entry point’ to spark curiosity, followed by a series of structured learning activities that build knowledge and skills. Pupils are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas, and make connections across different areas of learning. Units conclude with an ‘exit point’, where children reflect on and showcase what they have learned.
This approach ensures that learning is purposeful, connected and meaningful, rather than fragmented across separate subjects.
Inquiry-Based Learning
At the heart of the IPC is inquiry-based learning. This approach places pupils at the centre of their education, encouraging them to take an active role in the learning process.
Rather than simply receiving information, children are guided to ask questions, investigate topics, and develop their own understanding. Teachers act as facilitators, supporting pupils as they explore ideas, test theories and reflect on their findings.
Inquiry-based learning helps children to develop critical thinking skills, independence and a deeper understanding of the world around them—skills that are essential for lifelong learning.
Global Competencies
The IPC is designed to develop global competencies that prepare children for life in an interconnected world. These include:
- Cultural Awareness: Understanding and respecting different cultures and perspectives
- Communication Skills: Expressing ideas clearly and working effectively with others
- Adaptability: Responding positively to new challenges and environments
- Collaboration: Working as part of a team to achieve shared goals
Through these competencies, pupils learn not only academic content, but also how to navigate and contribute to a diverse global society.
International Benchmarks
The IPC is aligned with internationally recognised standards, ensuring that pupils’ learning is both rigorous and transferable. Assessment is based on clearly defined learning goals, allowing teachers to track progress and provide meaningful feedback.
This alignment with international benchmarks ensures that pupils are well-prepared for transitions between schools and education systems, both locally and globally. It also provides parents with confidence that their children are receiving an education that meets high international expectations.
UK Affiliation
The IPC has strong roots in the British education system and reflects many of the values and standards associated with UK schooling. It complements the National Curriculum for England, while offering greater flexibility and a more holistic approach to learning.
This UK affiliation ensures a solid academic foundation, particularly in core subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science, while also promoting creativity, enquiry and global awareness.
Our Future Vision
Our vision is to create a forward-thinking learning environment that nurtures confident, capable and globally minded individuals. The introduction of the IPC is a key part of this journey.
Looking ahead, we aim to:
- Deliver a high-quality, internationally recognised curriculum
- Foster a love of learning in every child
- Develop well-rounded pupils with strong academic and personal skills
- Build a school community that values diversity, curiosity and excellence
By September 2026, we will be fully implementing the IPC, providing our pupils with an education that prepares them not only for academic success, but for meaningful participation in a rapidly changing world.
